Davison, MI – Omarion Humphrey, a 9-year-old boy with autism who is pre verbal, went missing from the Lake Callis Recreation Complex, on July 4. The area is surrounded by woodland, a creek and a man-made lake. The entire area, including the lake, continues to be searched in the hope of finding Omarion.
MLive.com report that Rick Freeman, Davison Township Police Chief said that, “they’ve encountered everything short of mountains.” On July 8 the decision was made to close Abernathy Park and Lake Callis so that an estimated 500 personnel, including police, could search the area alongside helicopters and drones.
Police Chief Freeman told:
“I mean everything. We’re dealing with grasslands, with thickets, with woods, with ditches, with bodies of water,”
Further adding:
“areas that are so thick that we’re having to microscopically send dogs and people on their hands and knees through, coated in (mosquito) repellent.”
Police have been in contact with friends and teachers to learn more about Omarion’s autism in the hope that they can entice him back. This has involved them playing Eminem repeatedly on loud speakers, as well as leaving lights on in the area over night.
“We’ve been trying to key in on not only using autism experts in general, but using specific folks that have been working with him very closely,”
Omarion was last seen wearing black shorts with a red stripe and he was wearing no shoes or top. Due to his nature of autism, Police Chief Freeman has asked anyone who sees Omarion to not approach him, but to keep him in their sight and to call for law enforcement on Genesee County Central Dispatch at 810-732-9911 or 911.
