Eighteen year old Alex Tree was walking home through an underpass in Walthamstow on the way to visit her grandmother. Miss Tree was carrying two bags from high street chains JD Sport and Complete Entertainment Exchange when she was assaulted.

She was approached by a man, thought to be in his early twenties approximately 5ft 11ins, of slim build and with short dark hair and a brown moustache who demanded her property.

He was wearing grey tracksuit trousers and tracksuit top with a white motif on the front of the top and was riding a purple mountain bike with black handle bars.

Miss Tree refused to hand over her bags, and was punched repeatedly by the assailant until she fell to the ground. The attacker then drew a spanner on her and wrenched the bags from her grasp.

Metropolitan police have released the CCTV footage below:

Miss Tree, claims that a man and a couple with a pram were both in the area around the time of  her attack, they could be key witnesses as they would have seen the attacker and are urged to come forward.

Speaking to the Walthamstow Miss Tree said:

‘It makes me feel very angry and anxious. I hope he pays for what he’s done because he’s hurt me very badly. I’m in pain outside and inside.’

Her mother Sarah Foley, 46, also told the newspaper:

‘There were other people there who did nothing. They could have scared him off or something but they just did nothing.’

Uk readers who have any information are urged to call the investigation team on 07833 058767 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
