Dubai, UAE – Mike Tyson was in town this week to promote his one-man stage show Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth.
Tyson, the US former boxing champion visited the Dubai Autism Centre for about an hour, getting a tour of the facilities and doing art work with 54 students, aged between three and 17 who have autism.
“Normally this is what I do. I go to schools when I’m in the US or in Europe. I’m grateful for the opportunity to meet the children and happy to be able to help.”
Hayula Mourad, the centre’s head of communications, said Tyson’s visit would help to spread awareness about autism. Talking with Gulf News she said,
“It’s very important because with celebrity comes press and with the press comes awareness. This is one way of us reaching out to the public. One of the things we teach our children is to socialise and this breaks the routine during a typical day. It’s good for them to accept change and expect the unexpected.”
