Something Special Magazine will use Candy Water’s “New Year’s Day” painting for their 2013 Winter Issue Cover and a feature story will be done on Candy and her art.
Candy Waters’ parents, Sandy and Robert shared this story about their daughter with Autism Daily Newscast via email:
“Candace was diagnosed with autism at three years old. Our beautiful redheaded daughter Candace, aka Candy, is 13 years old and has severe autism. Candy is nonverbal but she is an amazing painter! Even though Candy is unable to communicate through words and has trouble interacting with others, she is able to express herself through her paintings.

“Candy’s art has inspired people and raised autism awareness around the World! Most importantly, her paintings give people hope. We feel Candy is giving all of us a unique little glimpse into her world. Her paintings allow us to see what she sees and feel what she feels. As you can see by her beautiful paintings, it must be a bright happy world!
“Candy has been painting since she was six years old when a teacher sent her home with some materials and asked us if she could paint a picture for their fundraiser. We didn’t think she could but she did, and sure enough, one of her first paintings sold for $100 in a local gallery. Candy has a very unique colorful and happy style of painting that is all her own. She seems to know how colors blend together perfectly. When she paints she becomes very happy and laughs which is priceless.

“We are so proud that Candy is able to express herself through her art. Several of Candy’s prints now (we keep the originals for sentimental reasons!) have sold for between $500 and $800. Some of her work currently hangs in Park Ridge City Hall, State Senator Dan Kotowski’s Chicago office and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky’s Chicago office. The University of California, Irvine Magazine is using Candy’s “Mr. Sun” painting for the cover of their summer issue that sheds light on the university’s efforts to help those affected by autism.”
