Henderson, Nevada – Benjamin Nelson, 20, has autism and has been creating illustrated books since he was a little boy. As a child he found communicating difficult and drawing helped him with this.
His former teacher at Foothill High School introduced him to Adobe Illustrator and this has helped to transfer his ideas from paper to the screen.
Ben’s book is about Red who is a house fly and she has a terrible memory.
Ben Nelson’s mother Laura Nelson said on the Fox 12 Oregon news website:
“It’s so deep and so detailed. He knows who their grandpa is and where they came from. There this kind of animal and this kind of species,”
Ben Nelson will graduate in June 2014 and hopes to take a college course in graphic design.
Students at Southwest Career and Technical Academy have now created a movie based on his book and it is being screened at the Foothill High School Theater on May 29 at 4 p.m. It’s free and open to the public.
