Technology has played its role in all the areas of life and it is no more a difficult task to take care of a person with special needs. Today, there is a vast variety of technology that can help  track the position of wanderers within seconds and recover them if they are lost. LoJack has been developing devices and tools to help people live a more secure and safer life for years and it has now created the SafetyNet system for people who are at risk of getting lost and those who are taking care of them.

There are millions of cases of people with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Down syndrome and autism only within America and even more are found in other parts of the world. The need of the time was to create a system that was not only safe but easy to operate and unnoticeable for those that need to be monitored. Those with autism often have a strong sensory reaction to wearing certain items, textures, or materials. If this is the case, creates the possibility that the person might not be able to use the system in the time of need. LoJack has looked at this scenario well and designed their bracelets accordingly. There are fabric, vinyl and leather straps with leather being of a larger size more suited to adults.

Through SafetyNet, LoJack has  created a system that is safe, secure and easy to use by everyone. All that a child or adult needs to do is wear a bracelet around his/her wrist. This bracelet releases signals that can be read and detected by special equipment used by the workers at LoJack. The trained professionals have all the equipment and tools that can detect the signals released by the bracelet in the hand of the patient. This way a wandering and bolting child will never be out of reach and within minutes the trained professionals will be able to track his or her position.

The best thing about this equipment is that it’s safe. It doesn’t require too much time and there is no responsibility on the shoulders of the caregivers other than making a call to the LoJack’s safety department regarding the missing patient. Once the call has been made, the rescuers arrive with their equipment and search for the patient that doesn’t take much time because they are not following clues but detecting signals. Not to mention, the bracelet is not a significant hassle for most individuals with Alzheimer or ASD so they are less likely to try to take it off.

Furthermore, the bracelet doesn’t put any responsibility on the individual to press a certain button since this is very unlikely to happen in real world scenarios  with small children with autism. With this easy to use method and system, families and caregivers can now rest assured that they have someone to help them in searching for their patient.

Cost are around $100 for enrollment and then another $30 per month for monitoring, which puts this into the higher end of devices. It is also only available in the US and in certain areas. If the service is available in your area knowing that there is a huge team of professionals in the background securing the safety of your loved one may be a viable consideration.
