The Specials – Five young adults with intellectual disabilities is to be the subject of a new television series starting in September.
The documentary programme will follow housemates Sam, Hilly, Lucy, Lewis and Megan over the course of four years.
The group have been friends since childhood and every part of life will be depicted in their home town of Brighton, UK. The series starts when the friends are aged from 19 -23.
“The Specials” was originally an award winning 10-minute webisodes series and has now been adapted for television, and will air on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
Carolyn Strauss, executive producer of the series is reported on the Disability Scoop article as saying:
“It is our hope that viewers are not only entertained by their experiences, but inspired by their excitement for life and encouraged to accept and celebrate all people no matter their walk in life.”
Thirteen episodes of the series will air back-to-back on OWN on Sept. 7 starting at 2:30 p.m. ET.
The Specials website states:
