Stoke on Trent, UK – Charity Lifeworks is calling urgently for an autism assessment unit to be built in Staffordshire.

According to a report by the BBC adults in the area can wait up to TEN years for a diagnosis and assessment. The case study in the article, Chris Hollins had been waiting 12 years after a referral from his doctor. He said:

“I’m getting fed up with waiting. I feel very vulnerable. I go through confidence crises and I’m very aware I live life differently to most people.”

A new assessment centre is in the pipeline according to Stoke on Trent Clinical Commissioning group, but there is nothing solid as yet.
