Mother explains how using medical marijuana has autistic son thriving

cannabisA report in this weeks’ The Week magazine tells of  how a Southern California mother has a thriving son due to her decision to introduce medical marijuana as part of his daily medications.

In an interview with the magazine Mieko Hester-Perez explains that her son Joey was diagnosed with  severe autism at 16 months old. This was followed later with a diagnosis of  Duchenne muscular dystrophy. At nine years old his mother was told to organise his funeral.

She said:

“I couldn’t bear that. I couldn’t imagine life without my Joey. It was probably the most horrible time in my life, in our family’s life. We did not know what to do. It was a very dark place for us. I did have people tell me, ‘You need to place Joey in a home.’ And I said, ‘No, Joey is a part of this family. He’s going to stay a part of this family

Joey was taking 13 different meds daily and decided to try medical marijuana to help her son. It took trying 15 different strains of the drug to find the one which worked for Joey. Joey even has his own strain of Medical Marijuana known as Joey’s strain – and the results were astonishing with almost immediate effect.

The full story on Joey’s strain can be found here.

Autism Daily Newscast reported on Jimmy and Maria Ferris from Oregon and their use of medical marijuana in March and it seems that the science of using cannabis oil is gaining credibility and momentum within the autism community.
