Chennai, India – A symposium on Autism and Cerebral Palsy was organised last week. This was a collaboration between the Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped Children and the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disability (NIEPMD),

Teachers, counselors and special educators from both private and government schools took part in the symposium the Indian Express reports.

The symposium was conducted by Dr Neeradha Chandramohan, director, NIEPMD, Dr Nachiketa Rout, NIEPMD and Dr Pratibha Singhi, Chief Paediatric Neurology PGIMER.

Dr Neeradha Chandramohan told the paper:

“The most important thing is early detection of autistic behaviour. Early intervention can help in early rehabilitation of the child.”

Dr Chandramohan then added:

“Today, we have educated teachers and special educators on how to identify these special children and how to teach them differently,”
