Hugh Grant appears alongside actors with learning disabilities in The Drama Group

baked beanThe Baked Bean Theatre Company – The Drama Group is a play based upon the book of the same name co-written by by Nigel Hollins and Hugh Grant, published by  Baroness Sheila Hollins’ Books Beyond Words series.

The Baked Bean Theatre Company is comprised of actors who all have a learning disability.  Hugh Grant is set to make a special appearance on the play’s January 13 premier at Sadler’s Wells.

Hugh Grant told how friends, Sheila and Nigel Hollins introduced him to the book series.

“I thought they were genius. The three of us, together with some other friends, sat around and came up with the story. And then the brilliant Lisa Kopper did the drawings. I hope people like the finished thing. I’m very proud of it.”

Baroness Hollins further added:

“Why a book about acting? Nigel’s experience. A joyful celebration of an activity enjoyed by many people with and without disabilities, and a fitting tribute to our 25 years of work creating books without words which empower people who are not able to read to receive understanding and support in facing many of life’s most important experiences.”

The actors of The Baked Bean Theatre Company are all hugely excited about the prospect of working with an Hollywood actor. Ray who is an actor with the company, told that he cannot wait to see Hugh Grant in the play.

Claudia, who is also an actor in the company told that the books are easy to read as they contain pictures, not words, further adding that she enjoys drama.

The Drama Group premiered at the Lilian Baylis Studio in Sadler’s Wells on January 13.
