North Easton, Mass. — The Children’s Museum in Easton, Massachusetts will be holding family autism events for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
The first of the four events to be held at the museum happened Friday last week.
The events will take place half an hour after the museum officially closes to the public at 5 pm. The children with autism as well as their families will also be given access to normal exhibits in the museum.
According to Children’s Museum Corporate Relations and Development Director Brian Hoffman:
“The museum staff is specifically trained to work with children on the autism spectrum.”
“It’s set up for children on the spectrum so it’s less overpowering and there’s less noise, which are the dynamics that can be very uncomfortable for the children and their families.”
All four autism event nights are made possible through the sponsorship pf local businesses — with the Westwood Mansfield Pediatrics sponsoring the first two nights and speech and language pathologist Karen Francioso-Howe sponsoring the other two.
Easton children with autism as well as their families can attend the events for free, but they are required to register by sending an e-mail to info@childrensmuseumineaston.org or calling the museum at 508-230-3789.
