North Andover, Massachusetts – Logan Pearson, has severe autism, he has just celebrated his 12th birthday on Feb 24,
Logan’s mom, Catherine told of how all his past birthdays have been quiet and sad days.
Catherine therefore decided to be proactive and wanted to make the day special for Logan. She posted a message onto Facebook in January asking for birthday cards in order to both recognize and celebrate her son’s birthday. She said that as he doesn’t speak his special is day is often overlooked.
She wrote on her Facebook page
“So will you go right now and grab a piece of paper and write Happy Birthday Logan- from your FRIEND— in Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii… Etc? I want to make a birthday card book for him.”
“Help us celebrate Logan’s birthday! Feel free to share this.”
Autism Daily Newscast covered this story on Feb 12. Since Catherine posted her birthday message to Logan she received cards from all around the world and Logan received the surprise of his life.
Cambridge police officer Steven Bikofsky saw the Facebook post and decided he wanted to help. The Cambridge Police Department therefore organised a surprise birthday party for Logan at a Fuddruckers in North Andover.
There was even a police escort to take him there.
Steven Bikofsky rounded up officers from all over the state to surprise Logan with gifts and cake.
Catherine said she felt humbled by the birthday party that was 12 years in the making.
