Restaurant, ‘Orangegrass Thai and Oriental Cuisine’,South Shields, South Tyneside – during the 2 weeks Christmas holidays the restaurant created a charity dish with 50 per cent of the sales going to the North East Autism Society.
The Shields Gazette reported that almost £300 has been raised for the charity.
North East Autism Society provides autism-specific services for children, families and adults affected by autism.
Titu Akthar, managing director is reported as saying:
“The best part is it doesn’t cost diners a penny. The response we’ve had from our customers has been great – they think it’s a brilliant idea, and we’re already thinking of doing it again next year.”
Staff also donated their tips to the charity.
Sally Squires who is the society’s events fundraiser said:
“We can’t thank Titu and the Orangegrass staff enough for their support.”
All of the money raised will help to support the charity’s community outreach support team and specialist sports, health and leisure facilities.
