Fitchburg, Mass. — Interns from a Department of Developmental Services-funded summer internship program called the Urban Youth Collaborative served at the TREK-Synergy Summer Camp for youths with autism.

The camp, an initiative of LUK, Inc. under its Teaching Reaching and Experiencing with Kid (TREK) program, aims for its participants to reach their full potential through activities that help maximize their growth and learning, called adventure based and experiential learning, also known as the AB/EL.

The Urban Youth Collaborative interns were called in to support the summer camp through a collaboration made by LUK, Inc. with the Department of Developmental Services and the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. The DDS-funded internship program is intended to provide opportunities for young adults to train in the field of human services, to serve and work particularly with individuals with developmental disabilities.

The TREK-Synergy Summer Camp, held June 29 to July 3, served about 60 young individuals with autism aged 9 to 17 years old, as well as their siblings. The camp ended with a graduation and family day during its last day.
