at the "Cake" Los Angeles Premiere. Arclight, Hollywood, CA 01-14-15Los Angeles — She is highly successful in the film industry and her popularity around the world is undeniable— but not many are aware that behind all the smiles and the Hollywood glamour is a person who has been dealing with a developmental disorder called dyslexia.

Jennifer Aniston said that growing up unaware that she had the disorder, she just got by believing that she simply wasn’t smart enough.

It wasn’t until she was already way into her adulthood that she found out, by chance, that she was dyslexic. According to the famous actress, if it wasn’t for a routine eye check up that she had to undergo, Aniston wouldn’t have found out about her disorder. She told:

“The only reason I knew [that I had it] was because I went to get a prescription for glasses in my mid twenties.

“I had to wear these Buddy Holly glasses. One had a blue lens and one had a red lens. And I had to read
a paragraph, and they gave me a quiz, gave me 10 questions based on what I’d just read, and I think I got three right. Then they put a computer on my eyes, showing where my eyes went when I read. My eyes would jump four words and go back two words, and I also had a little bit of a lazy eye, like a crossed eye, which they always have to correct in photos.”

All her childhood years she always fell behind the kids she knew at school— always struggling to learn and always feeling insecure about it. The accidental discovery that she has dyslexia changed how she has been viewing her life all these years. She said:

“Now I had this great discovery. I felt like all of my childhood trauma-dies, tragedies, dramas were explained.”
