Barcelona, Spain – The Planeta Imaginario Foundation in Barcelona has created two apps that could help people with autism. The first app is iSecuencias. It is programmed with one hundred scenes that teach language structure and how to recognize emotions.
“We entered a contest held by the Generalitat, Fundacio.cat, and we won,” Rodriguez told Mobile World Capital, “The award allowed us to create iSecuencias 1.0 at no cost and introduce it to the market.” Since it’s release in 2012 the app has been downloaded over 80,000 times and App Date called it one of the 50 best Spanish-language-health apps.
When iSecuencias became a clear winner the foundation hungered to develop more helpful apps. AbaPlanet (named after applied behavioral analysis) is an app that allows children and parents to work with basic objects and vocabulary that is classified into 18 different categories including vehicles, clothing, and food. What’s amazing about this app is that can work with the child’s learning pace and won’t move on to harder material until the user mastered the current material.
“The child must match an image to an object (for example, a green shoe) with its pair or something similar (with another green shoe or yellow shoe). This way we can work on something very important prior to language, which is object recognition and generalization,” Rodriguez told Mobile World Capital. The foundation will continue to develop apps.
