Toys“R”Us – will be supporting World Autism Awareness Week that is taking place from March 27 to April 2 2015 in the UK. The toy giant has planned an autism friendly shopping event for both parents and children affected by autism, to enjoy.

The event will take place on Sunday March 29 and will allow families to browse for toys in a calm and relaxed environment.

There will be:

  • Reduced fluorescent lighting
  • No loud music
  • No tannoy announcements
  • Autism friendly signage will be used.

This autism friendly event has been planed together with the the National Autistic Society (NAS).

Toys“R”Us marketing and e-commerce director, Mike Coogan, told that the event, “allows lots of children and their families to visit our store together and enjoy the facilities and content of the store, the same as other children can do without concerns.”

As the event is taking place on Sunday, no transactions can take place before the stores official opening times, 10.00am in Scotland, and 11.00am in England and Wales. Northern Ireland customers will have to wait until 1pm.

However if parents choose not to wait in store, staff can put their chosen toys to one side in order for them to return to the store later on to pay for them.

The Toys “R” Us blog website, states that most stores will open at 9am, but that you should check with your local store. More information can be found here.
