Saima Wazed Hossain wins award from World Health Organization for fight against Autism

BANGLADESH – Saima Wazed Hossain has won an award from the World Health Organization (WHO) for her continued work and contributions to the fight against autism and neuro-development disorders. She will be honored with this first time, World Health Organization award, at this years four day South East Asia regional health conference.

Saima Wazed Hossain, daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, won the award from the  World Health Organization for her contributions to the fight against neuro-development disorder and autism.

Health Minister Mohammed Nasim told  a press conference at the capital’s Sonargaon Hotel.

“We congratulate her on behalf of the health and family welfare ministry,”

She was appointed in June as an expert adviser by WHO. She is also a Chairperson of the National Advisory Committee on Autism in Bangladesh.  She has led campaigns for passage of a resolution regarding autism in the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland earlier this year. She has also played a critical role in creating the South Asian Autism Network (SAAN).

Hossain is presently a school psychologist in the United States and remains devoted to the cause of raising awareness about neuro-development disorders and autism.
