Jeanette Purkis, Australia – Jeanette is the Autistic author of ‘Finding a Different Kind of Normal: Misadventures with Asperger Syndrome’ – an autobiography, and ‘The Wonderful World of Work: A Workbook for Asperteens.’ Jeanette works full-time in Government administration. She gives talks about living well with Autism in a variety of forums, including TEDx.
Jeanette had a difficult start in life. After making every mistake in the book, Jeanette turned her life around at 25 and now she has a book to show for it. She authored the book Finding a Different Kind of Normal: Misadventures with Asperger Syndrome, an autobiography.
What inspired Jeanette to teach young people on the Autism spectrum about the importance of independence?
Jeanette shares the story of meeting a young man on the spectrum who wasn’t taught how to take the bus. This inspired her to help other young people on the spectrum to be more resilient and not make the same mistakes she made in her early life.
