Dover, Del. – NASCAR on Fox Director Artie Kempner, the founding president of Autism Delaware, led “Autism Speaks Day at the Races” earlier this year. The event was hosted by the Dover International Speedway for the third time in three consecutive years. Kempner’s 19-year-old autistic son, Ethan, helped kick off the June 2 event.

Autism Speaks Day at the Races also engaged golfers through the charity, Drive for Autism golf tournament, which for a decade has brought some of NASCAR’s top stars to Delaware, to take part in the charity event that was held in an indoor grandstand, that was  made friendly for children on the autism spectrum. The limitation to engage for some children on the spectrum had been taken into account by the producers of the event, and therefore had provided adjoining rooms to accommodate those children who needed time out from all the action on the race track. Kempner explained,

“There’s something about the symmetry of cars going around in a circle — they’re going to come here and then they’re going to go around and be there — that is very intriguing for folks that he knows and the way he thinks,”

Fox Sports has also shown support by making Autism Speaks one of its beneficiaries for the company’s charity campaign, Fox Sports Supports, which began way back in 2007.
