Jake confronts autism bullies in the most public of ways

546713_389386664441150_1873652233_nPeople tell you to ignore bullies. That feeding them with a reaction will make things worse. For one boy with autism, this wasn’t the case.

Jake took part in the Bully project, a series of films relating to bullying with the hope of eradicating it entirely. He stood up in front of his high school classmates and told them exactly how he felt about their tormenting.

Jake has autism and has been bullied for not interacting and being different. He told Upworthy:

“Bullying has had a big impact on my life, but since the movie I’ve made a lot of friends … For other kids with autism, if you’re getting bullied, try and tell them to stop and not give a reaction — if that doesn’t work, go to an adult. It might seem hard ’cause we can’t handle stress as well as other kids, but you will get through it and you’ll be awesome – actually you already are!”
