Another enlightening and beautifully written article from Emma, though sadly it is also terrifying. This GcMAF is yet more quackery and abuse dressed as treatment for something which is not an illness or a disease, embellished with pseudoscientific language, aimed at parents who see their autistic children as somehow lesser than their peers, somehow improvable, rather than the miracles and gifts which all children are. We can fight this in two ways: one is of course to confront them head-on, canvassing the media and lobbying law makers, pursuing these psychopaths into the criminal justice system where they belong. But long term we need to challenge the idea that autism is some kind of tragedy; a miserable affliction which needs to be eradicated. Challenge the poisonous ideas of Autism Speaks or the ABA industry, reveal to the world that autism, while presenting challenges, is a neurological difference: it can neither be cured nor should it be. We see and understand things differently, it would benefit the world to listen to us. When we are no longer dehumanised, these maniacs will no longer have an audience or a market. To paraphrase from the LGBT movement: "We're here, we're weird, get used to it!!"
