Rome — A device designed to calm children with autism was launched during an event themed “People with Autism – a Life Spent with Others”, which was organized by the Italian Red Cross and the Consorzio Promosalute in Italy last month.

The device, called Mente, was the brainchild of Maltese scientist Adrian Attard Trevisan.

Trevisan is also the founder and CEO of AAT Research, the Malta-based firm behind Mente.

Mente is a an electroencephalogram (EEG) device that utilizes neurofeedback technology to give children on the autism spectrum a soothing sensation, letting them focus better and engage positively with their environment. The device is also portable and is safe for families to use at home.

According to the Malta Independent, Italian Red Cross-Rome Provincial Committee President Flavio Ronzi spoke about the non-profit organization’s vision to partner with firms that “provide healthcare products and services that positively impact the lives of those affected by serious or disabling medical conditions.”
