Richmond, San Francisco Bay Area — Burnis Hurd, 44 has been charged with 273 D, which is child abuse and corporal injury to a child. He is currently in prison and has a $50,000 bond.

Mr Hurd followed his autistic son, aged 9, onto the school bus last Friday morning and attacked his son’s bully. Both children attend a special education program at Wilson Elementary School in Richmond.

Richmond Police Lt. Mark Gagan told that Mr Hurd’s son pointed out a boy, 11 who had been bullying him. He then added:

“The father grabbed the 11-year old by the hair, pulled hard and raised the child out of his seat, then shoved him on the side of the bus where the window meets the wall,”

The 11-year old cut his earlobe during the incident. The incident was not caught on video.

Mark Gagan said that Mr Hurd threatened to kill the student and used threatening language to other students on the bus as well.

The bus driver did not intercede and did not report the incident to district officials.

The 11-year old went to the principal who phoned the police department.
