Blaine, Washington – A boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder has been given the gift of mail this holiday season.

When William’s  Christmas wishlist indicated his desire to be given mail in lieu of a present this year, his mother Kay Thompson was uncertain as to how to fulfill his request. William, who is 12 years old and communicates with others  by writing on cards, has since been inundated with letters after his mother posted the request on social media.

The response was overwhelming with the Facebook post receiving over 1000 “likes” in less than one week and as a result, letters have been arriving to the Thompson home on a daily basis with one as being sent from as far away as Ireland. Thompson was touched by the response  noting that her son does not have many opportunities to socialize with his peers. She further asserts:

“When people first see him I see the stares and I see the curiosity and you want to know, you want to know what’s happening.”

However now William is enjoying having the chance to engage with others due to the letters he is receiving and Thompson has revealed that the youngster is extremely excited and appreciative of the public’s outpouring of support.
