News in Brief – Avonte Alert petition created
Autism Daily Newscast has chosen not to report on the missing case of Avonte Oquendo unless significant new information can be reported. There is still no new clues to finding him.
Amid concerns that perhaps Avonte is being held in order to obtain a large amount of money, the family has announced that the reward offered for his safe return has been fixed at $95,000
Two days ago a petition has been created at Change.org by Karen McQueen which asks the The President of the United States, the New York State Senate to create an Avonte’s alert, named for Avonte Oquendo.
On the site it reads:
“Create Avonte’s alert, named after Avonte Oquendo, a system so when a person that is unable to communicate or has a lower level of function vs their real age goes missing an alert goes out nationwide.”
A picture taken on a New York subwa has provided some hope, but Avonte’s older brother, Anthony, told CBS New York: ‘We’ve seen a lot of photos turn out to be dead-ends and not him, but this one is like, probably the closest one.’
