Lorain, OH – A local school for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders has opened a cafe in order to raise much needed funds and provide a valuable service for staff members and area residents.
After administrators at Spectrum Resource Center and School in Lorrain noticed that teachers were often frequenting nearby eateries during their lunch hour, they saw a need to open a similar establishment onsite. However one week after its grand opening, Spectrum Cafe has also begun to attract employees from local businesses looking to purchase their lunches within close proximity of their workplaces.
As a result, the cafe has been profitable garnering almost $2000 in its first week of operation with staff indicating that all of the money raised will be used to buy various materials for the school including Ipads, laptops and tablets.
However the cafe has not only been a success financially – it has also served to provide former students of the school with the opportunity to secure a job as well. Anthony Colon, a Spectrum Resource Center and School graduate, reveals that he is happy with his new position and always looks forward to his next shift. Colon states:
“I’m ready for Friday I’m ready to come back here Friday.”
