Dr Sherri Tenpenny  – is from Cleveland, Ohio, and is a high profile anti-vaccination campaigner of 15 years. She is a trained emergency physician and osteopath.

She has recently had to cancel her Sydney and Melbourne shows due to the immense backlash. that she has received with regards to her views.

On Wednesday Jan 7 the Kareela Golf Club, in Sydney’s cancelled a show as it as found to be  “too controversial”.

Melbourne’s Bay View Eden hotel have also cancelled a planned seminar due to a protest by doctors at the venue.

The Immigration Minister, Peter Dutton has also felt great pressure to revoke Dr Tenpenny’s visa, The Age stated that this was ‘on the grounds that “her beliefs are a very real threat to society“, according to one of several petitions started by pro-vaccination groups.’

NSW Health Minister, Jillian Skinner told:

“The best experts in the land agree that vaccination is the safest, most effective way to protect children against infectious diseases,” said Mrs Skinner. “There is nothing to fear from vaccination but much to fear from the devastating consequences of leaving children unprotected against potentially fatal diseases.”

While Dr Peter McIntyre, the director of the National Centre for Immunisation Research, added:

“We need to keep it at the level of what the science is. The implication from anti-vaccine groups is that the medical professional has been pulling the wool over the eyes of the public. That is simply not the case. If there are any downsides to vaccinations, there are mechanisms in place to handle them appropriately. The benefits hugely outweigh any risks associated with vaccination.”

Social media sites have been rife with comments and opinions regarding Dr Tenpenny anti vaccination stance. Twitter users have been using the hashtag #StopTenpenny to add pressure to sites and venues that are planning to host the events.

Dr Tenpenny tweeted on Jan 4,

“Australian press has labeled me a “public health menace.” Their country of 23M isn’t allowed to know the truth.”
